21 Days of Prayer

We believe that a foundation of prayer is absolutely essential if we’re going to see God move in our church and in our city like we believe he wants to. So, from 19th May to 8th June, in the lead up to Pentecost we want to unify as a whole church in 21 days of increased prayer activity and intensity as we all cry together “Come Holy Spirit”. This coincides with the 24/7 Prayer Pentecost Prayer Initiative where many churches right across our nation are committing to night and day prayer in the lead up to Pentecost.
Each Location will be engaging with this differently so get involved, and at the very least commit to using our weekly prayer guide to pray at home throughout the 21 days. You can access a digital version of the prayer guide here. However you join in, let’s use this time to cry out to God together, expectant for him to draw people to himself right across our city. Let’s pray church!

Foundations - Discipleship Resource

Foundations is a resource we have put together to help us disciple one another. It’s designed to be done in a small group setting of 2 or 3 people. It can be as simple as catching up for coffee once a week or fortnight, and using the weekly guides as a prompt for your chats and activities. We’ve published it on our website so that it is super accessible wherever you are - just open it up on your phone.

If you are new to faith and would like to use this material - ask an experienced Christian if they would be willing to do Foundations alongside you. If you don't know anyone, feel free to get in touch with us.

If you've been a Christian for a while, we encourage you to consider using this guide to help someone else establish foundational habits of reading the Bible, praying and helping others discover Jesus too.

21 Days of Prayer (East)

From 19 May to 8 June our whole church is taking 21 days to really focus on prayer. This is something we’re doing along with all Locations of The Street and it also aligns with 24/7 New Zealand’s Pentecost Prayer Initiative.

While consistent prayer is important, it can be helpful to have seasons where we encourage people to come together for focused prayer.

Over the 21 days of prayer, we’re encouraging people to do something that would be a stretch for them in prayer. We’ve aimed to set this at a level which will feel like a sacrifice but not over the top. There are a couple of ways to get involved.

Daily Prayer Guide: We’ve put together a daily prayer guide and poster to bring a different prayer focus for each day of the week. This is a baseline to encourage daily prayer over the 21 days. If you don’t have a paper copy you can access a digital version here.

Prayer Gatherings: We’re also hosting three prayer gatherings each week over the 21 days. We’re encouraging everyone to try and at least attend one each week. We know this will be a stretch but it’s for a short time and for a great purpose. Who knows what God will do as we gather together in a time of focused prayer.

The details for the prayer gatherings are:

  • Each Wednesday evening at Miramar Central School - 7:30-8:30 pm (21 May, 28 May, 4 June)

  • Each Sunday morning at Miramar Central School - 7:00-8:00 am (25 May, 1 June, 8 June)

  • Each Thursday at the Cathedral - 12:00-1:00 pm (22 May, 29 May, 5 June)

Introducing Joel Cooper

We are pleased to announce Joel Cooper has been employed as our newest staff member.

The appointment of Joel is endorsed by Senior Leadership and we are excited to have him on board. Joel comes onto the team to replace Ross Jones in the Property Management role, as well as steps into the accountancy role, which Sam Lienert has been holding since Kathy Dunn retired in 2018. Joel is the guy to be in touch with for any room bookings at Hania Street either in the Worship Centre or Life Centre.

Keep reading to learn a little bit about Joel - and feel free to send a message to welcome him! joel.cooper@thestreet.org.nz

Kia ora! My name is Joel and I've been part of The Street Church for over five years now! I am part of the leadership team for our Night community as the Local Lead for Worship.
Growing up 'underneath the keyboard' (as my mother often reminds me) is a great representation of both my lifelong involvement in the church and with Jesus, but also a picture of my love of music. I grew up between Auckland and Whanganui, but moved to Wellington early in 2020 to study music for film at Te Herenga Waka, Victoria University. Five years later, I have finished my masters in the same subject, and continue to use my love for music and creativity in many facets of my life. I passionately love Jesus, my family (my parents, my twin brothers + wives and children, and my little sister), and my wider Street Church family.

Kids Zone - May

Kids Zone begins a new series called Heroes of Faith. Each week we will look at the story of one well-known character in the Bible. Rather than focusing on the characters themselves, we will focus on what God is doing through that character.
Over May we will look at a character on the first and last week - with the two weeks in the middle focussing on Mother’s Day and a special time as we gather Together from all six Locations at Wellington College on the 18th.

Kids Zone Junior
spend the first and last week looking at ‘I Can Love Others’ through the stories of The Wise King and The Good Samaritan. In the middle weeks they also focus on Mother’s Day and our gathering at Together. Kids Zone Junior uses The Beginner’s Bible.

Funeral for Kody Schleif

Dakoda Raymond Earnest Schleif

12/10/2007 - 31/3/25

It is with much sadness that we share the passing of Kody Ray.

The Schleif family have been part of The Street Church for over 20 years. During the past decade, they have been unable to regularly attend Sunday services due to Kody's medical needs, but Ange has a deep connection with her Mosaic group and many, many families from across The Street Locations will have a connection with the family in some capacity.

Kody's fighting spirit and love for his family, which shined through till the end, will be sorely missed.

A funeral for Kody will be held from 11am at 9 Hania St on Thursday the 10th of April.

Anyone is welcome to join Ange, Shawn, Brooklyn, Paxton and their wider family and friends for this celebration of Kody's life and to say goodbye.

Kids Zone - April

Kids Zone completes the Life of Jesus series looking at the following two aspects of who Jesu is. Jesus is our Saviour and Jesus is our risen, living Lord.

Kids Zone Junior
spned two weeks looking at the Easter story through the following Bible stories. Jesus is Arrested and Crucified and Jesus is Risen!. Kids Zone Junior uses The Beginner’s Bible.

Both Kids Zone and Kids Zone Junior take a two week break for the school holidays.

Prayer Walking the Eastern Suburbs

As a church, we’re seeing God move powerfully in drawing people to himself. The cry of our heart is to see everyone in the eastern suburbs have the opportunity to respond to the message of Jesus. We’re praying that God would embolden our sharing of Jesus and enable people to believe. With this in mind, we’ve been working with other churches and have set the goal to together pray around every street in the eastern suburbs before Easter 2025—that’s just three weeks away.

The way we’re measuring this is through an app called Holy Ground. It’s easy to download and get started. We’d love for you to join in with this. Just imagine the impact if every one of us here and across the other churches took just one hour each week to prayer walk somewhere new. You could do it while walking the dog or by repurposing your walk with a Christian friend.

If this is new for you or you’d like some tips on how to do this well, you can grab a flier at services over the next three Sundays. Phil Coates at Gateway put it together. It’s got ideas on things to pray for and verses to declare as you pray and walk.

So download the app and hit “start a walk” and go and pray!
