Update from our missionaries Nick & Sarah

Nick and Sarah were previously Senior Pastors of The Street Church, and left to start ‘The Way’ a few years ago; this is a movement of everyday missionaries, a collective of home churches. As a missional disciple-making movement, The Way is built around home churches which reproduce, equipping followers of Jesus to become everyday missionaries in their own communities. Watch their latest update:

The shared lunch team needs you!

The monthly shared lunches are a wonderful addition to our gatherings at Mt Vic. They have helped create space to get to know each other and share more deeply together.

In order for the shared lunches to continue, we need to grow the team.

We need two additional ‘point people’ who are willing to take the lead once every four months, as well as four people to join the set up team and four people to join the pack down team. The set up and pack down team members will then be able to be rostered 2-3 months.

Please email Mel Lienert on mel.lienert@thstreet.org.nz to register your interest. The lunches on 29th Sep or 27th of Oct would be a wonderful time to get stuck in!

Job Vacancies - Youth Pastor and CAP Debt Coach

We are sad to let you know, that our youth pastor; Matt Swank has handed in is resignation, largely due to burnout. His last day will be Sunday 8th September. Matt and Ang, along with their children; Reuben, Jael, and Abigail will be leaving The Street to explore ways to make disciples, and potentially church planting/micro churches. We are so grateful for the way their whole family has poured so much love and energy into the young people here at The Street and we want to pray that God would bless them abundantly as they make this transition.

This does mean that we are now seeking to recruit a new Youth Pastor to replace Matt. The role is 30-40 hours per week and would suit someone who is passionate about helping our young people become multiplying disciple-makers.

We are also looking to fill a volunteer role within our Christians Against Poverty Debt Centre. Merrie who is our Debt Centre Manager leads a team of Debt Coaches who are trained by CAP to engage with clients to deliver the specialist debt help that CAP partners with us to provide to people in unmanageable debt. We particularly need a debt coach who could focus on meeting clients in the eastern suburbs of Wellington. You don’t have to live in the eastern suburbs, but you would be predominantly visiting clients in that area. The role is a voluntary role that requires approximately 8-12 hours per week. You do not need any previous financial experience as full training will be provided. The most important requirement is that you love Jesus and are committed to sharing his love with those who are struggling with debt.

Applications close 9th of September. If you would like to know more about either of these roles, please contact the office for the Job Description and details of how to apply. Email: office@thestreet.org.nz

Souvenirs Live Album Recording

Souvenirs Worship is a worship collective led by our very own Jamie Rodwell and Tom Field. As a church we partner with Souvenirs as they seek to write and produce worship songs that would be a blessing to the global Church. They are recording their 3rd Album on 14th September Live at The Arise Centre. God has gifted them with a bunch of new songs and they need to be sung.
Many of you have contributed by making donations which they are so grateful for, thank you. But now they need our voices and our worship to make this a reality.
Early bird tickets are available at Souvenirsworship.com There's a limited amount, so get in quick to get a $10 ticket and make sure to share with your family and friends!

Celebrating 4 years of Community Dinners

This week marked four years of us running the Strathmore Community Dinners, which we think is worth celebrating!

Every Wednesday, with only a 3-4 week break each summer, our team from East serves up a hot, nutritious meal for anyone who wants to come. We even managed to continue through COVID! Our busiest week over the years would have been around 60 people, and we've never had less than about 20.  That means we've opened up for dinner about 190 times, cooking nearly 10,000 portions of food over that time!

We've met many precious people along the way from all sorts of situations and backgrounds. We've had spiritual conversations, prayed for people, and we're excited for all that God may have in store for the future. Thank you if you have played a part in that!

Please pray for our dinners—that people would encounter the love of Jesus through what we do. Pray for spiritual conversations and soft hearts to believe in Jesus. If you'd like to join the team, contact Jenny at jenny.gill@thestreet.org.nz.

Get involved with Youth Ministry!

The Massive is our high school age (13-18yrs) youth ministry here at The Street! We are all about coming alongside young people and helping them to grow in their relationship with God, as well as reaching the youth of Wellington who don’t know Jesus yet! One of the ways we do this is through our youth program that is on Friday nights at 9 Hania St.

We’re currently looking for new people to join our team, and there are heaps of different ways you can get involved. A few current needs are:

  • Worship leading

  • Service leading

  • Welcoming

  • Connecting with youth - discipling, mentoring, being a role model and friend!

If you’d like to find out more please get in touch by emailing themassive@thestreet.org.nz

CAP client in need, can you help?

Expressions of love can be shown in many different ways. Often, extending the love of Jesus is practical. Meeting a felt need of someone. Through the incredible ministry of CAP we are able to come alongside someone experiencing crippling debt and be part of their journey to financial freedom.

Our CAP debt centre manager, Merrie, is currently supporting a client and her two teenage daughters who have a few specific needs and we would love to be able to meet these for her. Please get in touch with office@thestreet.org.nz if you are able to help in any way.

  • A tumble dryer. Doesn't need to be new, but does need to work.

  • Fix a garage door? The roller type.

  • Plumber who could fix a toilet. It leaks around the base.

  • Warm woman’s clothes size 6/8/10
