Matt Conway, chair of the elders, gives an update on the appointment of new Senior Pastors for The Street Church: Simon and Jenny Gill.
Make sure you check out today’s online service (Sunday 3rd) - we have some exciting news to announce for The Street!!!
At Strathmore Park Community Dinners the team have gotten to know a man from Hong Kong who arrived in New Zealand 20 months ago and hasn’t been able to find a job all this time. The team have been praying for God to provide a job for him and we were so excited to hear from him this week that he has finally been offered a job! Praise God for his provision.
A new sermon series has started called Mixtape. Mixtapes were awesome. You could put all of your favourite songs on one tape even if they didn’t really go together. Psalms are like a mixtape for God’s people. A collection of poetry and songs for every occasion and every emotion. They teach us how to come before God and come together with others whatever is going on in our world.
Our prayer is that Mixtape would be a series where we grow deeper in prayer and worship, on our own and together. Our prayer is that we would become people who genuinely journey with the Lord through every season of life.
You can find the life group questions for Mixtape here
Not being able to gather as a whole group certainly reminds us of how much we love to come together right!? This quarterly prayer and worship night is a beautiful opportunity for us to not only gather with those from our own church family, but with other believers from all around the peninsula and wider eastern suburbs. We'd love you to be part of this night so get it on your calendar and we look forward to seeing you there at the Salvation Army.
We will be running this event even if we’re still in level 2.
Massive Camp (was to be 1-4 Oct) has been postponed. New dates will be available soon.
Kia ora e te whānau! We are looking forward to being able to gather all together again but in the meantime, here’s what’s happening on Sundays at East!
We will continue to broadcast online services until restrictions allow us to hold our usual larger Sunday gatherings. However, in order to give you as much clarity as possible for the coming weeks, we have made the decision to continue to definitely broadcast online services up to, and including, Sunday September 26, 2021.
We believe it’s so valuable to gather with other believers, but we know it’s not straightforward for everyone to make that happen. That’s why we organise East at Home. To make it as easy as possible for you, we have organised the houses and you just need to register and come along!! We’ll update this post with the link to register by Monday evening. You’ll also find it on our Facebook and Instagram pages - just search “The Street Church East” if you don’t already follow us.

Please keep praying for Markus and the whole Bain family as they continue to try and settle into a new normal on this very difficult health journey that Markus is on. Prayer is the most powerful thing we can do, but the practical support of providing a few meals each week also goes a long way. If you can support them by providing a meal, here is the roster for September and October. Thanks so much church! Click here
We've got a drawing competition running until 7pm Monday 13th. Draw the figure of the man in Daniel 10:5-6 and send it to city@thestreet.org.nz. There will be Whitcoulls vouchers awarded to the best under 12 and over 12 entries! You could also be featured in the Online Service next Sunday when Jerram wraps up our series in Daniel. Adults you can do this too, though please include the age of the person entering!
We hope you’ve enjoyed a little bit more freedom this week as we’ve gone back into level 2. We’ve (Simon and Jenny) enjoyed having the kids go back to school!

We know that some of you will wonder about whether this means the return of “East @ Home.” We are going to do our best to get this organised for next Sunday (19 September) so watch out for details in the next couple of days. We’ll add registration link to the newsletter, and it will be on our social media channels.
Bless you!
Missions Prayer meets every fortnight to pray for Missions and our Missionaries, so if you have a heart to see the lost reached and the Gospel shared, come and join us on Monday, 7-8 pm on zoom. Any queries or to get the zoom link, contact merrie.reddington@thestreet.org.nz
Upcoming prayer nights are September 6th, September 20th, October 4th, and October 18th.
Life groups are small groups that meet together regularly to help one another grow as followers of Jesus Christ. They are a really significant part of our church and are especially important when we’re unable to gather in person. Many of our life groups are continuing to meet over Zoom and those small group communities are an amazing place to find love, connection and genuine church community. If you are not part of a Life Group and you’d like to be, we’d love to try and help you find a group that works for you. Complete this form and we’ll be in touch!
Even when COVID is wreaking havoc, Christmas is still coming! We’re trusting that we’ll be able to celebrate Christmas as a church with all the fun and joy that we usually do. If you are creative and love Christmas would you consider being part of a planning team for our Christmas service this year? If so, get 19 September, 1-3pm in your calendar and hopefully we’ll be able to meet together to plan a great celebration for this Christmas! Please let us know if you’re planning to come by emailing east@thestreet.org.nz
As we study Daniel together over the next few weeks in services and in your life groups, it would be so beneficial for you to read the book of Daniel a few times through to get familiar with it and to spend time considering what God is saying to you through this book. We have found these great little books that contain the book of Daniel in the ESV version with blank pages giving you space to journal and write notes. If you’d like one of these books to make the most of this journey through Daniel, they will be available to purchase on Sunday morning before and after the service for $10. We have 30 copies so first come, first served!
Thanks for your continued support and care for the Bain family. Not only can we be praying for them but we can also be supporting them practically. Here’s the roster for August if you’re able to help by making them a meal.
Our Alpha course has started, meeting on Monday nights to explore faith, life, and meaning. Be praying for those on the course!
If you would like to be notified of the next course, email alpha@thestreet.org.nz.
City and Night have been running a 24/7 prayer room at Hania Street for the last week, and it has been incredible—so much so that they have decided to extend it for another week.
We feel the need for more prayer—for more desperation, for more expectation, for more reliance on prayer to accomplish the vision of reaching Wellington, for more time in prayer worshipping God for who he is.
If you want to get involved, be sure to sign up for one of the new slots. It’s a great chance to gather as a life group to spend an intentional time of prayer together. Also, just a warning: lots of people have said they wished they’d signed up for two hours!
For more information and to book a slot in the prayer room, follow the link below.

Thank you all for your continued support of the Bain family in prayer and also in many practical ways. It’s over a year since Markus was taken ill and we are still praying for complete healing for him. Providing meals has been one way we have been able to support them and currently we have a roster in place to provide 2 meals per week (Tuesdays and Wednesdays). If you are able to support them in this way there were 2 spots left when I wrote this and you can add your name to the roster here.
Imagine being a 15 year old whose country was invaded by a ruthless king who dragged him and his friends to a foreign country where they would learn the language and culture of the country and serve for the rest of their lives. And yet the events and experiences of Daniel and his friends reveal that God and his power are significant. We discover a God who not only knows the future but is sovereign over it and who will ultimately bring about his own kingdom that will last forever. If you’re struggling to trust with the uncertainties of life, if you’re wondering what it looks like to follow Jesus in our culture; if you’re hungry to see God’s incredible power in our world, Daniel will not disappoint.
Across the first week of August, we are launching a 24/7 prayer room in the Life Centre at 21 Hania St. Across these 168 hours of prayer, we expect people to encounter God and encounter His presence in a mighty and refreshing way.
We feel the need for more prayer. For more desperation in prayer. For more expectation in prayer. For more reliance on prayer to accomplish the vision of reaching Wellington. For more time in prayer worshipping God for who he is. We encourage you to sign up by yourself, as a family, a life group or with a friend.
To book an hour in the prayer room, follow this link: https://www.thestreet.org.nz/24-7-prayer
The guidelines for booking are
Each slot is a 1-hour slot and you can book for as many as you want, but part of 24-7 prayer is that the room is never empty, so for any slots you sign up for, you have to make sure you turn up!
From 8pm-6am, you need to book for 2 people minimum. The rest of the day, you can book a slot alone.
When booking, book under one person’s name and then we will be in touch to ask if there are others in your group coming.
We are excited to embark on this journey the Lord is leading us on. If you have any questions email your Lead Pastor at city@thestreet.org.nz or night@thestreet.org.nz
