Hutt Location Update

We are a church on a mission to help people become total followers of Jesus Christ. We gather across the Wellington region each week to worship and to encourage one another. Each Location is positioned in a local community with a unique heartbeat for the people around them. Have you ever wondered what the other five Locations are like? Where they meet and what it looks and feels like? To increase our unity, deepen a love for one another, and continue to celebrate what God is doing, we are producing a profile video for each Location. We begin with our friends gathering in the Hutt. Strathmore Community Dinner

5.30pm Wednesday evenings at the Strathmore Community Centre / Te Tūhunga Rau. We provide a free dinner each week, but the next few weeks we are likely to be short on help with the food preparation. If you would like to help with this please get in touch with Andrea andreamteng@gmail.com. Big thank you to all our helpers.

BLESS - Story

We use the acronym BLESS to help us as we engage in the mission that God has given us to go and make disciples. B = Begin with prayer. L = Listen. E = Eat. S = Serve. S = Story.

As we build relationships with people who are far from God, there will be opportunities to share a story with them. Either the story of what God has done in your life, or the Gospel story of how Jesus came to save us. We need to be ready!

One way you can be ready is to prepare your 100-word testimony. There aren’t many moments where someone wants to listen to the 30-minute version of your story, but the 100-word version is easy to listen to. Sharing your story in 100-words is harder than you think, so we need to prepare. Write it out, and learn it so that you are ready to share it when you get an opportunity. It doesn’t need to be about how you came to faith, it could be about what God has done in your life, something he has helped you with - anything that communicates God’s work in your life.

The other way you can be prepared is with the Gospel story - the Bible says it is the only message with the power to save. We have found the Three Circles Gospel Presentation a great way of sharing the Gospel. We have stickers of the diagram you can stick on your phone so you always have it with you and can use it to share the Gospel with others as God opens up opportunities. Watch this video to learn how to do it, and then practice it until you can share it yourself.

Here are some challenges for you this week:

  • Write your 100-word testimony and learn it

  • Watch the video of the 3-circles Gospel presentation and practice it every day this week

  • Look out for opportunities as you BLESS others to share one of these with someone who doesn’t yet believe in Jesus.

Wednesday 22nd April - 7-8am - Guys’ Breakfast
An informal weekly men’s breakfast to hang out and connect. This is held either at Maranui or L'affare in town, depending on where people need to be for work. It is organised on a WhatsApp chat, so if you are interested talk to Dan Silvester to be added or email east@thestreet.org.nz.

Wednesday 22nd April - 5.30pm - Community Dinner
Every Wednesday, at Strathmore Community Centre, we run a complimentary dinner for our local community to bless the people of these suburbs - anyone is welcome. (If you’d like to help with this, even if it’s just occasionally, please get in touch - jenny.gill@thestreet.org.nz.

Kids Zone

19th April

As we are at the end of the school holidays now we have our last Sunday before returning the regular curriculum. Once again we will be watching a veggietales video and discussing what it teaches us.

If you have a young person at home you could ask them what they learnt from the veggietales episode!

Life Groups

Life Groups are essential at The Street Church. They are a place where we grow in our love for the Lord, find our place in community and learn how to live out Jesus' call to go and make disciples. Did you know that anyone that is part of The Street Church can have access to an amazing collection of Christian video resources at Rightnow Media? It contains all sorts of goodness for kids and adults alike. If you don’t already have a login click on the link to get set up and enjoy!

Baptism

Jesus clearly instructed us that when we repent and choose to follow him, baptism is the first step in that new life of following him. If you haven’t been baptised and would like to be, please get in touch and we’d love to talk to you about it. Email east@thestreet.org.nz or talk to your life group leader or Simon and Jenny.

Serving

The church is described in the New Testament as a body, where every part is different and has a unique part to play. The body can only be what God intended it to be if every person plays their part. Serving on a team is a great way to contribute your gifts and to grow as a follower of Jesus Christ. If you’d like to find out more, fill in this form and we’ll be in touch!

Giving

Giving financially to your local church is a Biblical principle that is key to training each of our hearts in generosity and is a declaration that money is not our master. The money you give here is used to lead and operate this location of The Street, but also more widely to support The Street as it seeks to reach Wellington with the gospel. It also helps support several national ministries and international missions.
