PrayerNotes 23 August

Dear Friends in Prayer,

"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. "Matthew 7:33-34.

Discipleship

Praise God that Nick, Sarah, James, Fiona, Chris, and Dan have safely returned to New Zealand after their trip to the US visiting churches and ministry leaders there. Pray that each will feel strongly led by the Lord to apply what they have learnt in our church to God’s glory. Please keep praying for Clay and Lesley McGregor who get back at the end of this week.

Also remember in prayer Sophie, Nicola, Claire and Nathan who have done a great job keeping the church office running smoothly during this period. May the Lord continue to strengthen them.

Worship

Give thanks to God for Simon’s message on Sunday morning from Matthew 6, firstly on living for God’s purpose, and not for that of the world, which often centres on the love of money; and secondly on not worrying. After all, by worrying we cannot add a single hour to our lives. As Simon said our problems become God’s problems when we are focussed on His purpose. God’s desire is that we place every aspect of our lives on His altar, handed over to His care. That means our money, our work, our leisure time, our families, ourselves. Once there they can be pushed into the background of our lives. The Lord will then supply all our needs, as He has for so many men and women of faith before us. Let us all pray that this message will be taken to heart by those who heard it and that, truly, we will hold more lightly to the things of this world from now on.

Fellowship

Please pray for a wonderful time of fellowship for all those involved in the seniors’ lunch to be held at the church on Thursday.

The Men’s Promise Keepers’ New Zealand campaign "The Awakening" moves to Christchurch next and the conference will be held in Upper Hutt on 16-17
September. Join in praying for all those organising the events and for the men who will attend, that they will truly awaken to the reality of living as followers of Jesus Christ.

Evangelism

Praise God for the safe arrival of Joshua Salisbury to his parents Sam and Gaby who are ministering with To The Nations in Zambia. Pray Joshua will grow strong in the love of God and that his family will seek His purposes as they raise him.

Please pray for those invited and encouraged to take part in the Christianity Explored course starting next Monday evening. Pray that many will be led to decide to follow Jesus Christ as their Saviour and Lord. Pray also for those attending to the details of the weekly meetings, that the burden would rest lightly on them and many would help.

Join in prayer for Sacha Olsen who is preparing to travel to India to be a missionary for three months. Pray especially that she will have no anxiety over the preparations that have to be made and that the slave auction on Sunday after the second morning service will contribute significantly towards Sacha’s travel costs.

Ministry

Remember in prayer Nick as he prepares to speak next Sunday morning on Christians at this general election time. The political parties seem to be appealing largely to people’s greed, pray that other considerations will taken into account as New Zealanders prepare to vote. We need to continue to pray and personally encourage others to be informed. Pray that God will give us wisdom as we review the political scene and determine how best we can vote.

Please pray also for James Rees-Thomas who will be speaking at the evening service.

There is still a need in our church for help with communion set up and clean-up, and for offering counters at the second morning service. We also need someone to put out refreshments in the green room for musicians and speakers. Pray that the Lord will lead people to volunteer for these service roles.

The annual Kingdom Builders conference will be held in Wellington on Wednesday 7 September. Pray that this will be a time when people come with open hearts to hear what they can do to build God’s Kingdom on earth.

Ken Rout is back in Kigali, Rwanda after being in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Praise God that he survived a serious vehicle collision on the way to Kigali with only minor injuries, and a flood in the house he was staying. A thousand Bibles have been delivered to Goma but please keep praying for the thousands more needed. Ken is shortly to travel across to Tanzania. Please keep praying the necessary arrangements will be able to be made and that there will be much fruit from Ken’s time there.

Prayer quote: "Show me Thy riches, glory and grace, boundless as time is, endless as space. Let me hold lightly things that are mine, Lord, Thou dost give me all that is Thine". Martha S. Nicholson, contemporary US poet and woman of prayer.

Pray without worrying

TSCC Prayer Team

The purpose of PrayerNotes is to bring to the attention of those at The Street City Church areas where prayer is needed and to encourage those with a heart for prayer to reach out to God in this way. It is our prayer that this will lead to more people praying more that God’s name will be glorified in our city and that we would be helped to become total followers of Jesus Christ. If you don’t want to continue receiving PrayerNotes, please advise by return email. Specific requests for prayer can be emailed to the church office at office@thestreet.org.nz or by ringing 385-7315.
