PrayerNotes 1 September

Dear Friends in Prayer

"As you come to Him, the living Stone - rejected by men but chosen by God and precious to Him - you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ." 1 Peter 2: 4-5.

Discipleship

Praise God that all our ministry leaders are safely back in New Zealand and considering how they can put into action some of the things they learnt.

Pray that they will continue to seek the Lord’s leading as they share this with the elders and the church as a whole over the next few weeks.

Please pray for the six men at Rimutaka Prison who were baptised into the family of God last Sunday morning. Pray that they, and those who support them, will continue on in their walk with God which has so changed their hearts and their lives.

Worship

Give thanks to God for Nick’s message on Sunday morning about the blood of Christ that washes our sins away and cleanses us in the sight of God, no matter what we have done. Let us give thanks again for that blood and rejoice that we have been called according to His purpose, to know Him and to serve Him for eternity.

Be thankful also for James’ message on Sunday night focussing on what wrecks us, activities and thoughts that break our heart s as they break God’s who knows about them all. Join in praying that God would continue to reveal the things in this world that break our hearts, and use and inspire us to make a difference.

Fellowship

The Men’s Promise Keepers’ New Zealand campaign "The Awakening" was held in Christchurch last weekend and the conference will be held in Upper Hutt on

16-17 September. Join in praying for all those organising the events and for the men who will attend, that they will truly awaken to the reality of living as followers of Jesus Christ.

Lift up to God the women’s retreat "Soul Spa" being held at Kaitoki Gardens on Saturday 17 September. This will be a day when women will be immersed in all things beautiful, for the hydration of their souls, and inspired and uplifted by amazing teaching and heartfelt worship. It will end with an exquisite banquet. Pray for those making the arrangements and for the women preparing to attend, that they will be ready and open to experience all the day has to offer.

Evangelism

Please pray for those taking part in the Christianity Explored course, which started on Monday evening. Give thanks also for all those attending to the details of the weekly meetings, that the burden would rest lightly on them.

Volunteers are still needed to help with setup of the room beforehand, prayer during the course, and providing dinners for the people that attend.

Give thanks in prayer for Sacha Olsen who is preparing for her short-term mission trip to travel to India. We are thankful for the funds that she has raised towards the trip and pray that she will have no anxiety over the preparations that have to be made.

Ministry

The next First Monday prayer meeting will be held at The Street City Church on Monday night starting at 7 pm. Students and young workers here and throughout New Zealand will be meeting at that time to pray for the salvation of their generation. Pray it will be a time of drawing close to God and of bringing to Him our needs. They and we need to tell the young people around us the truth of the loving God who created them with a destiny and a purpose.

There is still a need in our church for volunteers to help with the night church connections team. This involves welcoming at the door and handing out notices, being on the connections desk, distributing welcome packs during the service and helping people with enquiries. The church also needs help with security during the night church service, making sure that everything is safe and secure. Pray that the Lord will put a call for these areas of service on the hearts of the right people.

The annual Wellington leg of the Kingdom Builders conference will be held at the Lifepoint Church in Hopper Street next Wednesday. The evening worship and teaching with Brian Doerksen and Michael Frost will be held at The Street City Church.

Pray that this will be a time when people come with eager hearts to hear what they can do to build God’s Kingdom on earth.

The election campaign is in full swing with the leaders of the political parties promising and disputing amounts of money they will be able to give the people. Please pray for wisdom as we review the political scene and determine how best we can vote. Pray that the Lord will help us to see beyond the financial aspects of the campaign to understand all of what each party stands for.

Prayer quote: "Prayer is the Christian’s first line of defence against demonic influence. Fervent, sincere prayer thwarts Satan’s activity like nothing else." Neil T. Anderson, contemporary teacher, author, founder of Christian resource organisation Freedom in Christ, and man of prayer.

Pray with His authority

The Street City Church Prayer Team

The purpose of PrayerNotes is to bring to the attention of those at The Street City Church areas where prayer is needed and to encourage those with a heart for prayer to reach out to God in this way. It is our prayer that this will lead to more people praying more that God’s name will be glorified in our city and that we would be helped to become total followers of Jesus Christ. If you don’t want to continue receiving PrayerNotes, please advise by return email. Specific requests for prayer can be emailed to the church office at office@thestreet.org.nz or by ringing 385-7315.
