Pastors’ Pen - Sunday 18 March ‘07

It is often said that one of the greatest joys in life is being with someone when they surrender their life to the forgiveness and leadership of Jesus.

However, not every person has that opportunity and accordingly we often dismiss evangelism as something only a few other people can and should do until we fully understand the reach principle.  Imagine for a moment how a rugby team scores a try.  The ball is passed from player to player, breaking through defense lines until one member of the team crosses the try line.  While the person scoring the try is important, they would not be able to do this if it was not for the team.

Where do you fit in the team?  Maybe you have not personally introduced someone to Jesus, but if you had not touched their life along the way, perhaps they could never have got there.  There is power through the church.  The kind of power that changes lives when people who are far from God are pointed towards God through grace filled conversations or acts of kindness.

We can do this.  We can all touch other people’s lives in ways that bring them a step closer to Christ.  We must do this, because this is what we are called, commissioned and commanded to do in Jesus’ name.  We will do this, because we are all part of the team that collectively has the joy of seeing lost people come to Jesus.

Blessings,

Nick and Sarah
