Pastor’s Pen 18.7.10

“The Bible has more to say about money and possessions than almost any other subject – more than two thousand verses, as compared to five hundred on prayer and even fewer on faith.  Jesus talked about money consistently.  Sixteen of His thirty eight parables deal with it.  Why? He understood its power on the human heart. And, indeed, money consumes our waking thoughts and even shows up in our dreams.  But how we think about it, Jesus sais, reveals where our hearts really are.

And where are our hearts?  People today, from all walks of life have traded the glory of God’s presence for personal pleasure.  Our culture has gone wild in its quest for it.  It is no wonder, then, that multitudes worship the one thing they can easily barter for even more pleasure; money.  That’s where the heart of man is these days.”
Doug M. Carter

We are going to spend this and next week looking together at our attitudes towards money.  There are life group questions in this news sheet that can be used either in the life group or as a personal reflection tool.  In addition there is a resource that you can pick up at the connections desk that will further help you put some great skills in place as you grow as a disciple of Jesus in the area of personal finance.

Finally – a reminder to keep praying over the proposed elders, Sam McIvor and Jeremy Bank.  There is a brief bio sheet about them also available at the connections desk.
