Happy Mothers’ Day!
Today we celebrate and honour motherhood - it’s quite a job.
They say that mothering is the most noble calling, the highest role. They say that mothering is challenging and rewarding, heartbreaking and extraordinary. That mothering is the most natural of states yet it might not come naturally. That’s the risk you take.
Whatever a mother may or may not be, God designed it so that each new child has its own mother. Someone to depend on and reach out to. Someone to help tie shoes, blow noses, work out homework and understand falling in love.
It’s quite a job, mothering. And some do it better than others. The whole thing can be bittersweet at times. I met a mother this week who told me of her daughter’s struggles with drugs and alcohol and a broken way of living. This mother’s heart had been dragged through each of the valleys that her daughter had walked through and the two of them are only just beginning to re-discover each other.
I don’t know what your relationship is with your own mother or, in fact, with any children you might have. But let today be a day when you reach out and celebrate your mum in some way. Because mothering really is quite a job.
Bless!
