Pastors’ Pen - 1 April ‘07
I am sure that there is a wallet stealer in our home. I arrive home at night and then in the morning as I am leaving for the office, my wallet is nowhere to be found. What follows is a frantic few minutes where I turn the whole house upside down until I find it - feeling sure that someone else has moved it. However, I eventually discover it, “exactly where I left it.” I receive reminders from others that this common occurence always works out the same way and I should remember to always put it in the same place. Sound familiar to anyone?
When we lose something of value, everything else stops, we can’t go on without it, our emotions are charged and we do what it takes to find and recover that item of value.
Jesus came to seek and save what was lost. When we rejected him he viewed us as lost and needing to be found. He was committed to do what it took to restore our relationship with our creator. The message of Easter is that Jesus came looking for us, mounting an all out search, hunting high and low and turning the world upside down in an effort to reach one of us.
Unlike with the wallet, it’s up to us to decide if we want to ‘be found’. What is your response to Jesus this Easter?
Blessings
Nick and Sarah
