FOODBANK

This world is filled with people who are in need (both spiritually and physically). It is very important that these people hear about Jesus and the love he has for them, but are the people who are in need of help going to take us, our faith, and GOD seriously if we are seen as people who talk about how GOD loves them but then walk away without helping them with their every day physical needs (lack of friendship, without food, without clothing, needing financial help)?

So often we can find ourselves saying we love people when in fact our actions towards those in need say the exact opposite. It can’t be that way.

The FOODBANK happens around the last Sunday of every month at The Street City Church. It is an opportunity to bring along a food donation (non perishable food items). The food that is collected goes to the Wellington City Mission Foodbank which supplies food to people and families in our community. It is also an opportunity for us as Christians to take a look at ourselves and check that we are loving like Jesus, loving in not just words but with ACTIONS and in truth.

1 John 3:16-18

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.”

Please help us by making an effort to bring items of food each month and show those less fortunate the love of Christ.

VIVIAN ST BBQ MINISTRY

The Vivian Street BBQ:
Most people in New Zealand have heard the Christian message, unfortunately very few have actually seen this gospel proclaiming love of others played out. The BBQ ministry is situated in the middle of Wellington’s red-light district where every Friday night they give away free hot dogs to any who want them. This is a great ministry for Christians at any stage of their walk with Jesus because whether you’re discussing the significance of The Cross with an inquisitive inquirer or turning the sausages to feed hungry mouths you are showing the love of Christ.

If you would like to be involved in this amazing ministry email us at mobilise@thestreet.org.nz

Soup Kitchen

At 8am six days a week, the Wellington Compassion Centre opens its doors to serve hot soup and rolls to those so often overlooked and uncared for in our city. Compared with the majority of cities in the world, one can walk the streets in New Zealand and not always see the poverty that is right on our door step, however it is a reality for a huge number of people. By serving with the Sisters of Compassion you can serve people less fortunate and demonstrate the love of Christ to the many amazing new people you’ll meet. You will be such an incredible blessing to the men and woman who use the soup kitchen by talking to them, sharing a small part of your life with them, listening to their stories, and even just smiling. The Sisters who devote their lives to this ministry are beacons of light, energy and compassion, and the team of chefs are great fun. They would love you to join them! It’s such an uplifting start or end to the day and you’ll leave having blessed many, inspired yourself, and counting the many blessings in your life.

Jesus said “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?” The King will reply, “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me”.

This is a ministry opportunity that lets you literally put into action Jesus’ command to care for the “least of these”.

If you would like to be involved in this wonderful ministry please email us at mobilise@thestreet.org.nz and we’ll get in touch with you with more details.
